                                    CSCI 435 – Wide Area Networks

Objectives: 

The course intends to provide the student with the basics of the Wide Area Networks. The aim of the course is to provide a balance among breadth, depth and timeliness. Different types of networks and network protocols are discussed. The problems, possible solutions and existing implementations for the following issues are discussed: Identifying a host on the net, Routing, Congestion Control, The internet, Security Issues and The Applications.  In addtion, important current issues like mobile computing and multicasting are also included.

 7.  IP Addresses.

 8.  Classless InterDomain Routing (CIDR).

 9.  The IP Protocols.

10. Internet Multicasting.

11. IPV6.

12. Mobile IP.

13. The Internet Transport Protocols.

14. Network Security.

15. Domain Name System (DNS).

16. Applications.

Criteria for Evaluation and Grading System:

- Two Research Papers and Simulation Assignments                            30%.

- Best two out of three midterms                                                          40%.

- Final Exam                                                                                        30%.
